SLOVCA Overview

SLOVCA in the present

SLOVCA continues in its mission. It is an active member of EVCA and member of the group of National Associations throuout Europe. Its members are actively involved in preparing publication to promote venture capital and private equity in Central and Eastern Europe (see Central and European success Stories). SLOVCA keeps discussion among all interested parties on designing its future activities tailored to the specific needs of its members.

SLOVCA is looking for partners at different levels (full members and associate members) from different businesses. We need those who are interested in having an informal and formal floor to discuss their activities.

We are looking for venture capital/investment companies operating directly in Slovakia as well as regional funds targeting on Central and Eastern Europe, consultant firms, associations, banks and other financial institutions, law firms or business-media firms.

Nowadays SLOVCA:

• Represents, informs and defends professional interests of its members
• Collaborates with the government in establishing and developing legal, fiscal and financial environment adequate for the investors as well as for the targeted investments
• Supports and encourages creation and development of companies, which are seeking direct investments to new technologies, innovatory projects and of medium-sized enterprises seeking equity capital
• Provides professional background for SLOVCA members and others and help forming new professionals in this sector
• Facilitates the possibility of syndication investments for the members of the association
• Develops and maintains the highest professional ethics of its members, in accordance with SLOVCA's Code of Conduct
• Informs entrepreneurial sector about possibilities of venture capital financing with the objective to increase the number of investments - education and nurturing

Lobbying

There exists numerous of opportunities to start discussion with the government or professionals in respect of presenting suggestions for the improvement of the investment environment in Slovakia. SLOVCA with its potential membership basis may have the credibility and flexibility to offer a complex and balanced picture about the situation. SLOVCA may also convey concrete proposals to increase the attractiveness of the country for venture capital and private equity Funds, mainly in the issues of necessary changes in the taxation policies of the VC investments and Funds.

Partnership

SLOVCA cooperates with institutions such as other proffessional associations, financial institutions, chamber of commerce's, Transparency International, etc in order to better assist its members to find solutions to the important issues.

To promote venture philanthropy among the associations' members SLOVCA has signed partnership agreements with NESsT in May 2003. Later in the year NESsT announced signing similar partnership with the Czech Venture Capital Association (CVCA) and the Hungarian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (HVCA).

"Partnership with NESsT brings a new dimension to our work and industry. It utilizes the skills of our members for a social purpose, and brings a new perspective and meaning to our work," says Iveta Griačová (Director of the Slovak Venture Capital and Private Equity Association - SLOVCA).

In October 2005 SLOVCA became member of ZPS/ EAS (www.zps.sk), which is the first organization of private entrepreneurs established after 1989. Since 1993 the EAS is the member of European Confederation of Associations of Small and Medium - sized Enterprises in Brussels. The EAS mainly focuses on the crucial issues of creating and guaranteeing the suitable business environment. The EAS is prepared and open to discussions about the principal questions of creation and guarantee of suitable business environment with each political subject, which has a real interest on private sector development.
